On its huge screen with a diagonal of one meter, Dell’s U4021QW shows 5120 × 2160 pixels; this corresponds to 4K resolution, to which another 1280 pixels were knitted on the sides in order to achieve the 21: 9 format. Due to the curvature with an arc radius of 2.5 meters (2500R), you can also keep an eye on the edges of the display when you are working; Because the viewing distance to the edges is similar to the center, the eyes do not have to refocus as much and do not tire as quickly as with flat displays.

The equipment is luxurious, even considering the price of around 1700 euros: In addition to two HDMI 2.0 inputs and a Generation 1.4 DisplayPort, the U4021QW also has a Thunderbolt 3 socket in USB-C format. It transmits via the included active Thunderbolt 4 cable (no typing error!) Not only Thunderbolt but also DisplayPort signals and USB data at 10 Gbit / s (USB 3.2 Gen 2) and delivers 90 watts to the connected notebook. There is also a USB-B socket for an alternative data connection to the computer.

The connection used affects the data transfer: Connected via Thunderbolt 3, the four USB-A sockets of the hub push 10 Gbit / s over the line and the frame rate may be 60 Hz. Via USB-C, the data transfer and refresh rate depend on the remote station, because everything from USB 2.0 to 3.2 Gen 2 and DisplayPort 1.2 or 1.4 can come from the connection; in the worst case, you have to be content with USB 2.0 speed at full resolution and 60 Hz and the LAN connection is slowed down. Connected via USB-B, data also flows at up to 5 Gbit / s, the second USB-C socket at the bottom of the display never delivers more than 5 Gbit / s. The built-in stereo speakers sound decent and don’t clatter even at full volume, but they lack precision in the midrange, and the highs lack brilliance. In short: better enjoyment of music through external speakers.
