OWC's miniStack STX is a plug-and-play hub and storage unit that can add additional storage space and Thunderbolt 4 hubs to Mac and iPad Pro.

OWC miniStack STX is designed to stack seamlessly with Mac mini, but it can be used with any Mac. It is equipped with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, a universal 2.5-inch drive bay and an NVMe M.2 SSD slot to provide a series of storage capacity expansion options.

Users can use three Thunderbolt 4 to create three independent chains, which can contain up to five Thunderbolt, USB, or display devices. OWC stated that users can also remove devices from one of the chains without affecting the other chains.

The aluminum case, internal radiator, and high-efficiency fan keep OWC cool while running, while being almost silent.

With a storage performance of up to 770MB/s, OWC stated that miniStack STX is very suitable for heavy workflows such as video editing, virtual machines, and photography. OWC stated that users can edit, save and access their multimedia content in a near-zero delay.

Although OWC miniStack can be used with any Mac, PC, iPad, or Chromebook device, it is designed to be a companion to the Mac mini—especially because the newer Mac mini models no longer have an upgradeable internal drive.

The OWC miniStack STX is available for pre-order now, starting at $299.00, with no additional storage space.

Been waiting for this! Now, I want to know whether Apple will use the same Mac mini form factor for the M1 Pro or M1 Max, which will match it perfectly.

Finally someone is listening. I know this is basically a hub, not a dock, but if there is a dock version with Ethernet, SD card reader, etc., then I will buy one.

From reading the press release information, one thing I don’t know is: Does the device somehow overcome the single USB-C display limitation on the current M1 Mac mini? The material says "Display", but my understanding is that the M1 Mac mini will not accept multiple displays via Thunderbolt/USB-C.

There are dozens of available. This is the Satechi model: other models have 2.5-inch hard drive options and the size is 2.5 inches. Only OWC has 3.5-inch hard drives. 6, 8, 10, 16 TB drive capacity. That's great. You can stack two or three! I have had a lot of hard disk failures recently.

It is a USB docking station, not a Thunderbolt docking station, which is limited to USB speed, and the Thunderbolt docking station will provide 2.5GB/s SSD speed.
